Returning to the Self Through Breath

Hello, and welcome to my very first blog.

This space, Pura Vida is a reflection of my journey with wellness.

Over the years, I’ve explored many healing modalities, and this blog will be a gentle unfolding of those experiences. Each journey I share is an invitation to return to ourselves. And when I say returning to ourselves, I mean coming back to the body, to awareness, and most importantly, to the breath. In my healing journey over the decade , I have explored food as medicine, the power of Sound and Mantra, Qigong, Reiki energy healing, and, systems like Human Design and Gene Keys.

Each of these has offered insight, helping me understand my patterns, integrate my shadows, and find my way back to my ever joyful center. But if I had to distill everything I’ve learned into one essential practice, it would be this:

Breath

It took me a long time to truly understand its depth. Breath was always there, of course, automatic, unnoticed but not fully felt. Over time, I began to see that breath is not just a biological function. It is sacred. It animates our body, gives power to our voice, and holds the potential to purify us physically, emotionally, and energetically.

There is an ancient wisdom in breath.
In The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying by Sogyal Rinpoche, breath is described as the vehicle of the mind, the life prana, the vital force that moves through us. Breath has been seen as a bridge between the body and the soul. In some traditions, it is even believed to play a role in soul retrieval, a way of calling back parts of ourselves that have been lost, fragmented, or forgotten.

Through conscious breathing, we create space to receive what was missing and release what no longer belongs to us. Have you ever noticed how, in certain moments, your breath changes on its own? A sudden deep inhale… a long exhale… a pause. To me, those moments feel like the body remembering. Like something within us knows exactly how to restore balance. When we begin to calm the breath, the mind naturally follows. There is no force, no control, just a gentle entrainment. A quiet syncing.

Breath is the first mirror.
It is the point where the inner field begins to reflect itself, where awareness meets sensation, and something deeper starts to reveal its presence. Through the breath, we don’t just observe ourselves… we begin to remember who we are.

In my own life, breathwork has been deeply transformative. It has helped release stored tension, and anchor back into myself. Whether or not you resonate with spiritual ideas like soul retrieval, one thing remains true: Breathing is a powerful act of healing. It is simple. It is always available. And it quietly holds the wisdom to guide us home.

This blog is an extension of that journey, of listening, exploring,
and returning. I’m grateful you’re here.
